It wasn't the cartel. Skarleeth worked as a escort and tricked a straight man into taking him home. When the person realized Skarleeth was a man he wasn't happy about that.

It was a robbery that ended badly, wasn't clear why she was shot. She worked/lived in a dangerous Colombian apartment w/ other camgirls filming from their apts for a successful site, so always targeted for robbing. Sadly was't first or last victim.
